Lights Out on Rookie

What is Lights Out?

Lights Out is a Rookie original — a grid survival game where you pick your safe zones and watch as tiles go dark one by one. Each tile that goes dark that isn't yours grows your multiplier. Cash out at any time to lock in your winnings, or ride the tension for massive payouts. If your tile goes dark, you lose everything.

It's the inverse of Mines. Instead of actively clicking to reveal tiles, you make your choice upfront and watch the elimination unfold. The real-time decision of when to cash out — as tiles vanish closer and closer to your picks — creates a uniquely gripping experience.

How to Play

  • Choose your grid — 5×5 (25 tiles), 6×6 (36 tiles), or 7×7 (49 tiles). Bigger grids mean more rounds and higher potential multipliers.
  • Pick your tiles — select 1 to 5 tiles as your safe zones. Fewer tiles = higher risk but faster multiplier growth.
  • Set your bet — choose how much to wager.
  • Start the game — tiles begin going dark in a provably fair random order. Your multiplier climbs with every survival.
  • Cash out or ride — hit Cash Out at any point to lock in your current multiplier. Or let it ride for bigger payouts.
  • Bust — if one of your tiles goes dark, you lose your bet. The longer you wait, the higher the multiplier but the greater the risk.

Risk & Reward

The multiplier at each round is calculated from the survival probability. With 1 tile on a 5×5 grid, each round has roughly a 1-in-remaining chance of hitting you. The multiplier compounds with each survival, reaching astronomical levels in the final rounds.

Picking more tiles (up to 5) makes you safer per round but gives lower multipliers. Picking just 1 tile is high-stakes — any elimination could be yours, but surviving to the end pays enormously. Early cashouts give small, consistent wins; riding it out is high-variance with rare monster payouts.

Provably Fair

Every elimination order is generated using a Fisher-Yates shuffle driven by HMAC-SHA256 floats from the server seed, your client seed, and a nonce. The entire permutation of tile indices is determined before the game starts — but tiles are only revealed one at a time. You can verify any round after rotating your seeds.

A Rookie Original

Lights Out was designed exclusively for Rookie. It blends the spatial tension of grid games with the real-time cashout drama of Crash. Every round is fast, fair, and intense — the darker the grid gets, the brighter your payout glows.
